Commercial (Civil Department) Shear Engineering Corporation offers experience with designing roads, streets, waterlines, sewerlines, overlot grading, finished grading, and drainage systems for commercial developments. Listed below are a few commercial developments that Shear Engineering Corporation provided designs for: Della Terra Mountain Chateau (3501 Fall River Road) ; Estes Park, Colorado The Della Terra Mountain Chateau is nestled in the majestic grandeur of the Rocky Mountains in Estes Park, Colorado at the Fall River entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park (3501 Fall River Road). It is a destination site for weddings and a variety of other special events. Shear Engineering Corporation provided the civil engineering services for Della Terra Mountain Chateau. The project consisted of a 24,000 square foot two-story, 14 room bed and breakfast facility with lower level staff quarters on approximately 13 acres. Civil engineering services included: ·
City of Estes Park approved construction plans ·
Grading, access for roads and parking lot design ·
Drainage, erosion control and water quality design ·
Rosetta Stone retaining wall design ·
As-Builts and Drainage Certification The roads and parking area were 'Green' designed to save and accommodate the existing granite boulders, aspen trees, beautiful pines, shrubs, and wildlife such as Elk, Big Horn Sheep, and Mountain Goats.
A retaining wall was required with the project to accommodate a final grade difference on the north side of the chateau from the excavation of the mountainside. Rosetta Stone was selected
as the retaining wall product to best blend with the Rocky Mountain terrain and the architectural features of the facility while meeting site and structural requirements. Temporary fire protection was also required since public water service was not economically available at the time of construction. Massive high capacity concrete tanks were provided for fire protection water storage. Tank placement did not allow the installation of the required design lengths for the retaining wall geogrid. The tanks became the primary retaining structure and the Rosetta Stone was placed as designed in front of the tanks as the secondary retaining structure.
With the final drainage design, a water quality outlet structure was installed on the east side of the property. Della Terra Mountain Chateau was completed and opened for business in 2009.

Colorado Department of Transportation Maintenance Facility; Superior, Colorado Shear Engineering Corporation provided utility plans and a drainage study for the relocated CDOT maintenance facility for a 5.93 acre site west of McCaslin Boulevard in Superior, Colorado. Glen Isle Town Centre (Buck Fourth Subdivision); Loveland, Colorado The Glen Isle Towne Centre (Buck Fourth Subdivision) site is a 27 acre commercial development comprised of a grocery store anchor (King Soopers), small shops, fast food restaurants and a gas kiosk. The site is located on the southwest corner of West 43rd Street and North Wilson Avenue in Loveland, Colorado. The existing regional detention pond located on the south side of the site will be reconfigured and utilized for additional site detention purposes. Design also required improvements to West 43rd Avenue (an existing city collector street) and North Wilson Avenue (an existing city arterial street). A preliminary design for a North Wilson Avenue pedestrian underpass was also required.
